The first book about the sensational magazine Holiday, which between 1946 and 1977 was one of the world's most exciting publications. Known for its bold layouts, literary credibility, and ambitious selection of photographers and artists, Holiday depicted the romance of travel like no other magazine.
In Holiday's heyday, urban editor Ted Patrick and visionary art director Frank Zachary invited post-war America to see and read the world. On this journey, readers would join the magazine's celebrated roster of talent. Some of the most famous writings by Jack Kerouac, Ernest Hemingway, Graham Greene, Joan Didion, Truman Capote, Colette and E. B. White (his article ""Here Is New York"" was commissioned for Holiday in 1949) first appeared in its pages.
Henri Cartier-Bresson photographed a breathtaking Paris and other cities; Slim Aarons captured the glamour of travel around the world; and Al Hirschfeld and Ludwig Bemelmans helped illustrate places and people in dramatic fashion. Pamela Fiori traces the magazine's history, placing it in the context of the jet age, global turbulence, and the rise of Madison Avenue advertising.
