Merci steps beyond the walls of its store to bring its lively spirit to an apartment: Le Pied-à-Terre.
It was a dream. To embody a place so completely that one could live in it; to turn a spirit and a set of values—a love of beauty, usefulness and everyday life—into life itself, shared together, where the art lies in loving and surprising, making each day and each object a little more special.
115 sqm steeped in history
Merci has made itself at home in a historic, quintessentially Parisian apartment on Boulevard Beaumarchais.
Steeped in history, these 115 square metres embrace a new chapter and come alive again, with Merci and for Merci.
Everything in the apartment is original
Dating back to the late 19th century—1890, to be precise—the main rooms have never been altered. The bathroom's stained-glass windows, the fireplaces and every original feature that could be saved have been preserved.
In the kitchen, the 300 original terracotta floor tiles still underfoot today date back to the apartment’s early days. The gaps left by tiles too damaged to be reused have been filled with concrete.
Merci takes a twofold approach: revealing what is already there, the original character of the space. When that is not possible, contemporary solutions take over. No pretending, imitating or passing something new off as old.
An approach rooted in philosophy.
Rooms filled with works of art
Works of art selected by School Gallery in collaboration with the Merci team are displayed throughout the apartment.
Olivier Castaing, founder of School Gallery, has spent more than a decade championing both established artists and emerging talents from all walks of life.
His gallery is a place of discovery, open to everyone.
