Renowned for its masterful interpretation of classic American menswear, BEAMS PLUS began as a tiny shop in Harajuku, Tokyo, in 1976, called American Life Shop BEAMS. After a difficult period of political upheaval, young people, influenced by images of American culture in films and on television, were eager to get their hands on
something other than army surplus. This marked the beginning of BEAMS. Designed to recreate a UCLA student's room, the shop was undoubtedly the first of its kind.
