After 18 years of learning the hat-making process, Ehrhardt Koch launched New Era in 1920. In the 1930s, baseball was becoming increasingly popular in the USA. Even back then, players wore caps to shield themselves from the sun. New Era began producing baseball caps—and it was a success. In fact, by 1934, New Era became the official cap supplier of the Cleveland Indians.
