The Mediterranean motorway, or AP-7, is the main route linking all roads along the Spanish Mediterranean coast, from Algeciras to France. Its first section, inaugurated in 1969, was widely promoted in Francoist propaganda as a symbol of progress and the starting point of Spain’s consumer society
Today, the image associated with this road is far from the optimism of the 1970s, and the landscapes and architecture along it evoke a sense of strangeness.
