After 18 years of learning the hat-making process, Ehrhardt Koch founded New Era in 1920. In the 1930s, baseball became an increasingly popular sport in the USA. Even then, players wore caps to protect themselves from the sun. New Era began producing baseball caps — and quickly found success. In fact, by 1934, New Era had become the official cap supplier for the Cleveland Indians.
