After 18 years of learning the hat-making process, Ehrhardt Koch launched New Era in 1920. In the 1930s, baseball became an increasingly popular sport in the USA. Even at that time, players wore caps to protect themselves from the sun. New Era then began producing baseball caps, and success followed. In fact, as early as 1934, New Era became the official cap supplier for the Cleveland Indians.
