Faithfully reproduced, it invites us to admire 144 plates originally colored using chromolithography, a printing process now obsolete.
They depict 364 plants used in traditional medicine, their properties and flowering periods, and are accompanied by 221 pages of text written by a contemporary specialist.
This classification is followed by a study of 216 additional healing plants, along with advice on their planting, cultivation, and harvesting—all presented in an engaging and accessible popular science style.

Author: Paul Hariot (1854–1917), a pharmacist, botanist, and phycologist, author of numerous natural history books. He participated in the scientific mission to Cape Horn and received the Montagne Prize from the French Academy of Sciences in 1890.
